About

The Race

Based at Sunday River Resort in Western Maine, the Tough Mountain Challenge is an adventure obstacle race that combines alpine terrain with natural and manmade obstacles. At just 3.2 miles in length, you might think this will be a quick hike, but you'll change your mind as soon as you take off running up a mountain under an arsenal of snowguns or scrambling through the mud. Tough Mountain Challenge is a timed event, but it's not about whether you finish first or last—it's about testing yourself and pushing your limits then celebrating your accomplishment once you cross the finish line. What's more, the Tough Mountain Challenge is limited to a fixed number of competitors in each heat, which are spaced out, so you won't feel crowded or rushed on the course. For the kids, we also run the Mini Mountain Challenge
